Town Centre Improvement Project
The Welshpool Town Centre Improvement Project is a programme of public realm improvements funded through the Pride in Place Impact Fund. This page will act as the project's central hub, providing updates, consultation opportunities, reports and design proposals as they become available.
Welshpool Town Council has secured £83,000 through the Pride in Place Impact Fund to deliver the Welshpool Town Centre Improvement Project.
The project aims to improve the appearance, accessibility and overall experience of Welshpool town centre through a coordinated programme of public realm improvements.
Whilst many of the individual improvements may appear modest, together they represent one of the largest coordinated town centre improvement programmes undertaken by the Council in recent years.
The project currently includes proposals for:
- Replacement of existing wayfinding with modern maps and consistent signage;
- New benches, bins and other street furniture in key locations;
- Additional tree planting and greening enhancements;
- Improvements to public spaces, including Ponthowell Gardens;
- Installation of Welshpool town identity lettering;
- A new interactive digital noticeboard outside the Town Hall;
- Improved signage at key bus stop locations; and
- Other public realm improvements identified through the project development process.
The project covers approximately 9,170 square metres of public realm within and around Welshpool town centre, including Broad Street, Severn Street, Berriew Street, Church Street, Vicarage Gardens, key bus stop locations and other associated public spaces.
