Welshpool Town Council has expressed its heartfelt thanks to the family of the late Merv Haynes following a generous donation of £1,012 to The Hub, made in his memory.
Merv, who sadly passed away on 15 September 2026, had been a familiar and much-loved face at The Hub since it first opened four years ago. A regular visitor and enthusiastic supporter, he was held in great affection by the councillors, volunteers and everyone involved in the community initiative.
In a touching tribute to Merv, his family chose to donate the money collected at his funeral to The Hub, helping to support a community facility that had meant so much to him.
Merv's daughter, Paula Haynes-Brown, recently visited The Hub to present the remarkable donation of £1,012 to the councillors involved in running the facility.
A spokesperson for Welshpool Town Council said:
"We were all deeply saddened to hear of Merv's passing. He had been part of The Hub family since the very beginning and was someone we always looked forward to seeing.
"Merv was a wonderful supporter of everything The Hub represents - bringing people together, offering friendship and providing a welcoming place for everyone in our community.
"We are incredibly touched that his family chose to remember him in this way. Their generosity is truly appreciated, and the donation will help us continue the work that Merv supported so wholeheartedly.
"On behalf of everyone at The Hub and Welshpool Town Council, we extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt thanks to Paula and the entire Haynes family."
Operated by Welshpool Town Council, The Hub provides a welcoming community space where residents can come together, enjoy company and access support, helping to tackle social isolation and strengthen connections across Welshpool.
